U8 Referee Rules

Game is comprised of  4X10 minute quarters with 5 minute half time…teams switch ends at half time

1.        No Direct kicks…all hard penalties are an indirect…most will result in a drop ball

2.        Throw-ins…Allow 2 mistakes…and re-throw…then play-on

3.        No off sides

4.        Ball must move forward when starting game at mid-field

5.        Game is played with #3 ball

6.        No earrings, no watches, no metal bracelets

7.        Must have shin guards

8.        Teams can substitute  on all stoppages

9.        No overtime, stoppage time or injury time

You will:

a.       Have a Whistle

b.       Wear a Watch

c.        Have a coin

d.       Wear Running/soccer apparel

e.       Move with the flow of the game

f.         Protect the players

g.        Blow your whistle and blow it loudly

h.       Will keep coaches from behind the end lines

i.         Teach proper throw-in technique

j.         Be at your field 15 minutes early

k.        You will start and end game on time

l.         there is no overtime, injury time etc

m.      report all abuse to me

TIPS:

  • 10 MINUTES BEFORE GAME…Have teams line up and check for jewelry, shin guards, cleats…check nets for holes
  • Check the field for glass, cans, rocks that could injure players
  • 5 MINUTES BEFORE GAME… introduce yourself to each coach and collect $5 from each
  • Call captains to mid field for coin toss…winner of toss gets the ball…loser picks end of field to defend.
  • Ensure both teams have 7 players and a goalie…wave to the goalie…start your watch then start the game with a loud whistle.
  • After 10 minutes…Blow whistle loudly 3 times to end all quarters, halves, and game
  • After each goal..blow whistle loudly and point to the net
  • After each foul…Blow whistle loudly…pick up the ball…explain your call and resume play with a drop ball…If the foul is a hard foul…slide tackle, push, punch, bite, trip…resume play with an indirect kick…explain indirect to both teams…blow whistle and resume play

SCHEDULING: 

Once I get schedule I will send out emails about 10 days in advance…within 3 days you need to reply yes/no..if I don’t hear from you I will assume the answer is no and you are no longer interested in refereeing.  I will try and work down the list and I will try and give each ref 2 to 3 games on a Saturday.  Most games are Saturday morning between 9:00-12:00 @ Hampden Park, Creekview, Sporting Hill
