Frequently Asked Questions

Is my child old enough to play?

HMMS follows the same birth date cut-off deadline as the CVSD follows for kindergarten registration.  Your child must turn 5 by September 30 at the start of the season.  Please refer to the HMMS Age Group Chart http://www.hmms-soccer.org/Registration/223326.html

Is the HMMS program co-ed?

The U-06 age group is co-ed.  The U-07 and older age groups play same gender but two age groups play together, U-07 & U-08 play together, U-09 & U-10 play together, etc.

When does the season begin?

The season begins in the fall of one year and continues the spring of the following year. Children remain on the same team for fall and spring play.

On what team will my son/daughter be placed?

The Age Group Coordinators use information from the player registration forms to help in dividing up teams. The township, school, and housing development information help to aid in the forming of the teams. The Age Group Coordinators do their best to keep children from the same areas together and as close to home as possible.

What if I would like my child to play on a certain team?

Requests, for a player to be placed on a certain team or with a certain player, can be noted right on the registration form. The Age Group Coordinators will TRY to honor all requests when they are putting teams together but there are no guarantees.

When will we know who our child’s coach will be?

AROUND August 1st you should receive a call from your child’s coach with the field, days, and times that your child will practice.

When are practices and games?

Practices for the fall season begin in mid-August and are held twice a week. Games begin the weekend after Labor Day and continue through the end of October. Games are played on weekends. Practices for the spring begin the end of March (depending on the weather) and games begin around April 1st and finish up the weekend prior to Memorial Day Weekend. The U-06 age group only plays two evenings during the week in both fall and spring; one evening is a practice and one evening is a game.

Where will my child practice?

HMMS utilizes township, school district, church, and development fields throughout Hampden, Middlesex, Monroe, and Silver Spring Township. The age group coordinators do their best to TRY to keep children playing as close to home as possible. This task can be difficult if we receive more children from an area than we receive parent coach volunteers.

What does the registration fee include?

Your registration fee covers the cost of a uniform (shorts, jersey, and socks), player, team, and insurance fees paid to the Eastern PA Youth Soccer Association, referee fees, and field up-keep. The registration fee includes fall and spring play.

Other than the uniform provided by HMMS, is there any other equipment my child will need?

Shin guards are an absolute must! Soccer cleats are optional but most children choose to wear soccer cleats instead of sneakers. The soccer equipment is available at sporting goods stores such as Angelo’s Soccer Corner, Dick’s, Wal-Mart, K-Mart.

What if my child tries out for but does not make the TRAVEL TEAM?

Registrants that try out for TRAVEL but are not chosen for a TRAVEL TEAM are automatically placed on a Recreational Team.
